Young Leaders

Young Leaders is for young people aged 14-25 with limited opportunities to connect with others, discover their passion and gain work skills. It is completely free.

We’ve worked with young people to find out what they want and need. As part of Young Leaders, they will receive mentoring, training, and practical opportunities to help them develop, create, and grow professionally and personally.

When it comes to joining Young Leaders, there are several different programme options, including a shorter course and a slightly longer one. The Young Storyhouse team will help you decide which is the best option for you, so fill out the online application, and a member of the team will contact you to organise a meeting.

The next Young Leaders groups will start in September 2024.

If you have any questions about the programmes, email Joe.Lewis@storyhouse.com

Referrals

Young Leaders are usually referred to us, but we welcome any young people who’d like to get in touch themselves. Storyhouse Young Leaders are often home-schooled, or on EHC plans, are in care or have left care, are fostered, are a young carer, are neurodiverse, have accessibility needs, have low confidence, or have mental health concerns.

Referrals for 2024 Young Leaders have now closed.  Check back here, as applications for 2025 will open soon.

How does Young Leaders work?

Young Leaders runs five times a year.

Our classic Young Leaders programme runs from September – January and March – July. There are two of these groups – one for 14-17s and one for 18-25s which run at the same time.

Young Leaders Plus runs from October – July and is for people aged 14-25.

Young Leader groups meet weekly at Storyhouse or The Studio (both in Chester city centre).

Is Young Leaders for you or a young person you know?

Young Leaders is for people who may need extra support to gain skills, connect with others, discover their passion and develop work skills and knowledge of the creative industry.

Young Leaders are usually referred to us and sometimes they are home-schooled, are on EHC plans, are in care or have left care, are fostered, are a young carer, are neurodiverse, have accessibility needs, have low confidence, or have mental health concerns. This referral could be by a professional organisation that you are already working with, a parent or you can refer yourself!

What do Young Leaders do?

· Regular skills sessions and practical training

· Opportunities to watch theatre and film

· Work on group projects and challenges

· Mentoring from Storyhouse staff

How do I (or a young person I know) join?

You can refer yourself, or someone (maybe a social worker, teacher or parent) can refer you. In both cases, simply complete the form above

Once a referral has been made, you’ll receive an email from Joe from the Young Leaders team to arrange a meeting. Then you’ll be invited to attend a taster session to make sure that Young Leaders is right for you, and to meet the team. Following this, you’ll join for the regular sessions.

This house is your house.
