TOKEN Comedy Collective

TOKEN comedy events and workshops are here to give space to those who usually fill the ‘token’ spot on phallus-filled bills!

Founded by women who’ve walked very different paths, but have come together to challenge norms, make you laugh and wear excellent outfits in the process.

We want comedy bills to look like the world around us – so that starts by giving space to voices that we don’t see enough of. If you’ve ever thought about trying comedy, have a passion for joke writing or simply want somewhere open and supportive to help develop any work in progress you have – TOKEN has just the workshop for you.

These sessions are specifically created for the girls, gays, theys, people of colour and people with disability. TOKEN Comedy Writing Collective is for people who identify in one of these areas to have a safe space to try creative comedy writing or bring new untested material for friendly workshopping together.

We’ll host a mix of facilitated exercises, free writing sprints, and for those comfortable, a space to share current material and practice presentation or delivery skills too. There is never any pressure to share your writing or work, should you not want to – beginners and non-beginners welcome and all type of comedy interest too – doesn’t have to just be stand up!
