About the Panel

Kirstie HH She/ Her
Kirstie is the Chester lead for the Childless Collective formerly Gateway Women. She has complex disabiling health conditions and is childless not by choice. In 2019 Kirstie approached Storyhouse to find a meeting place for Gateway Women & discuss the possibility of more childless focussed events.  In November 2019 the first Storyhouse Childless took place as a one-day event and Kirstie has been thrilled to stay involved ever since.

Berenice Howard-Smith MA
Berenice is the co-founder of The Full Stop, an online community and podcast. She is a coach, facilitator, artist, art director and runs Hello Lovely and Co, a creative design collaboration agency with many people in our community to bring their ideas to life including the design of Robert Nurden’s book ‘I Always Wanted To Be A Dad: Men WIthout Children’. She is childless after failed IVF and miscarriages and lives in Cambridge with her husband and rescue dog.

Dr Fiona McRonald
Fiona is a scientist specialising in the genetics of cancer and rare diseases. She is childless not by choice for a variety of complex reasons, both biological and circumstantial. Fiona finds joy in autumn leaves, animals, tea and cake, dressmaking, her scientific work, interior design, and spending time with friends and family, especially her nephews and niece. Over the last few years, she has made steps towards increasing awareness in her workplace of the existence and needs of people without children.

Sam Ryley He/Him
Sam, 42, works in the creative industry in Chester, a photographer and filmmaker by trade he’s been involved in many projects both community and creative and is a fairly well known face about the city. He’s an example of a person who is childless by choice, and has been invited by the focus group to share his perspective in this panel discussion.
