Event details

The men’s panel explores the experiences of men, either not by choice or by choice.

The panel will discuss a wide range of topics, including, how men without children are viewed by themselves and by society; as well as difficulties in opening up, especially after  experiences of IVF. The discussion will continue answering questions like: what is the common ground in dealing with pronatalism between those who are childless and childfree? How do we support each other and acts as allies? How do we build community together?

The panel will end with a Q&A.

The panel will build on a recent The Full Stop Podcast episode, Why is nobody talking about childless men?

About the Panel

Andy Harrod He/Him

Michael Hughes He/Him
Michael Hughes is the co-founder of The Full Stop, a podcast and online community specifically for the childless. He resides in Wollongong NSW Australia with his wife Vicky.  Although his day job of thirty years has been in heavy industry maintenance, he continues to challenge himself with learning new skills, like breadmaking, video editing, drone flying and, of course, podcast editing. Although battle weary, he proudly stands as a childless man and is also a co-founder of The Childless Men’s Community and is passionate about making childless men more visible.

Sam Ryley He/Him
Sam, 42, works in the creative industry in Chester, a photographer and filmmaker by trade he’s been involved in many projects both community and creative and is a fairly well known face about the city. He’s an example of a person who is childless by choice, and has been invited by the focus group to share his perspective in this panel discussion.

Mark Briggs van Leeuwen He/Him
Mark is the owner of a small independent travel business based in the UK and The Netherlands. Mark has been an audience member at Storyhouse Childless in 2022 and 2023. His main interests are travel (obviously), outdoor sports, mycology, Science/physics and psychology. Childless not by choice, but not always sure where on the spectrum between “childless” and “child free” he sits – and how life like that should look in this society.
