Being Single

Storyhouse Childless

Event details

If pronatalism oppresses all those without children, what’s the term for demeaning and dismissing those who are single?

Those who are single often report feeling like a pariah in their social circles. Regardless of the circumstances of being single, society’s default position is one of pity, which can be disempowering and presumptuous. Yes, it can be tricky being single, but depending on the circumstances, it can also be liberating.

This panel will explore the dual challenges of being single and without children—the hurtful comments and attitudes of loved ones, peers and society in general. And, of course, the painful considerations of being single and yearning for children.
