CATS

OTMYT bring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash hit musical, Cats, to Storyhouse Chester. Marvel at this visual spectacle as the “Jellicles come out at night”. 

Cats premiered at the New London Theatre in the West End in 1981, and ran for 21 years and almost 9,000 performances. The musical garnered six Laurence Olivier Awards nominations, winning two, including Best New Musical. In 1982, Cats opened at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway where it played for 18 years and 7,485 performances. This production received eleven Tony Award nominations, out of which it won seven.  

The show is based on the 1939 poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year—the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories to Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. 

The show continues to be produced all over the world to sell out audiences, and now it comes to Chester for the very first time!
