My Left Foot is the story of Irish writer and painter Christy Brown. Born with severe cerebral palsy, Brown learned to write and paint using only the toes on his left foot. Based on Brown’s autobiography of the same name, this brutally honest film, which does not shy away from the ableist views of the time, has left a lasting legacy as one of the most accurate representations of people with cerebral palsy on screen. This is a truly unique biopic that aims to shed light on an amazing, somewhat forgotten, artist’s emotional and empowering story.
A must-see classic, My Left Foot (released in 1989) received two Academy Awards: one for Daniel Day Lewis, Best Actor, and one for Brenda Fricker, Best Supporting Actress.
