Movement Workshop with Indigo Spice
Event details
Part of Storyhouse Queer
Join Indigo Spice for an interactive workshop to explore the art of hand and arm gestures in South Asian performance arts.
Attendees will get a chance to learn a little bit about the history of the artforms involved before trying out different techniques, with an invitation to share some of their own stories through movement. The workshop can be done sitting down but requires mobility of hands and arms.
Indigo Spice (he/him) is a queer, brown, disabled migrant performer from Bangladesh. He mixes forms like jatra (Bengali folk theatre) and kathak (South Asian classical dance) into his performances. He is also a huge nerd and loves to draw inspiration from superheroes, science fiction, and fantasy. He is part of the House of Spice, a collective dedicated to platforming artists with queer brown heritage, and improving visibility and representation.
