Event details

Chester Disability Pride Parade is back for 2024 – the fourth year of our parade and the biggest yet!

Back by very popular demand, Back Chat Brass Band will be bringing along their energetic music to fill the streets of Chester with sound.

Meet at Chester Town Hall with your banners and flags – the band will start playing at 11am.

This years theme is all about the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games – why not decorate your banner and flags to celebrate your sporting heroes?!

This year’s parade will take the following route:

  • Chester Town Hall
  • St Werburgh Street
  • Eastgate Street
  • Northgate Street
  • Ending at Storyhouse or Outside Chester Market (weather-dependent)
Duration
10.30am - 12.30pm
Prices

Free – please book so we know to expect you (or just drop in on the day!)

Frequently asked questions…

What is the Disability Pride Parade?

The parade is you – the community and the people that turn up! Bring your banners and flags. The dress code is wear whatever you are comfortable in.

Everyone is welcome to come along – whether you are living with a disability yourself, know or care for loved-ones who do, or simply want to show your support for the community!

I'm writing a Risk Assessment - what do I need to know?

Storyhouse is the producer of the parade and will organise for the roads to be officially closed.

In 2023 we had about 150 people take part. Storyhouse staff are there to support with first aid and are fully briefed to ensure the parade is safe for everyone.

Will everyone be able to hear the band?

Yes! We listened to your feedback from last year and organised for more of the band members to take part, so the band will be playing at both the front and the back of the parade.

What happens if it rains?

Unless it becomes dangerous we will continue with the parade even in the rain. The unpredictable summer weather has meant every year has seen different conditions.

Come prepared – bring your sunglasses and your rain coats just in case!

Is there anywhere we can eat a packed lunch?

If it’s a lovely day we recommend Exchange Square or the Cathedral Gardens. If its raining you are welcome to eat in the restaurant at Storyhouse on this occasion.

If you’re looking to make a day of it, after lunch we have DanceSyndrome – a dance company from Lancashire –  performing their touring show SENse from 1.30pm. Book your tickets here.
