Event details

Directed by Mateo Garrone

An African refugee survival story inspired by true events, it tells the story of two young Senegalese men, Seydou and Moussa, who embark on a harrowing and brutal journey from Dakar to Europe in search of a better life. A trek that increasingly more people find themselves forced into making.

Introduced Dr Brenda Garvey from the Department of Languages and Cultures at Chester University.

Dr Garvey lectures in French and francophone cultures at the University of Chester. Her research is based in West Africa, mostly Senegal where, since 2008, she has been collecting migrant stories and listening to emerging literary and political voices. She invokes her Irish background to compare folklore and oral traditions with those in West Africa.
