400 Years of LGBTQ+ Histories in Cheshire
Event details
Part of Storyhouse Queer
Join Cheshire Archives as we journey through 400 years of the county’s LGBTQ+ histories.
During this talk, you will discover records of a man ‘wearinge weomen’s apparel’ at the opening of the 17th century, 18th century marriage registers of same-sex couples, newspaper articles chronicling the fight from incarceration to liberation across the 19th and 20th centuries, and historic material in the words of LGBTQ+ community members who lived through some of the most transformative periods in LGBTQ+ history.
The talk begins with an introduction to researching LGBTQ+ histories followed by a presentation of some of Cheshire Archives collections highlighting LGBTQ+ histories from across the county. We are joined by members of Silver Rainbows who will deliver ‘living history’ performances of their stories and experiences from the late 20th to early 21st centuries.
