Storyhouse Queer Festival returns for 2024

In a celebration of diversity and inclusivity, Storyhouse has announced the highly anticipated Storyhouse Queer festival is set to return from 13 – 18 February 2024.

The week-long event promises a vibrant mix of film screenings, live performances, community events, and more, placing LGBTQIA+ talent centre stage.

In collaboration with Chester Pride and co-created with individuals from local LGBTQIA+ communities of all ages, Storyhouse Queer has become a cornerstone event in response to the growing demand for representation and visibility in the city and beyond.

Headlining the event are dazzling divas direct from their smash-hit run in London’s West End. Queenz delivers a night of fun and fabulousness on Tues 13 Feb, promising jaw-dropping live vocals and a setlist packed with pop party anthems, including hits like Queen Of The Night, Born This Way, Raining Men, and more.

Adding to the laughter is Laugh Out Proud, a brand new LGBTQIA+ comedy night featuring established and upcoming acts from the community on the UK comedy circuit, coming to Storyhouse on Thus 15 Feb. Mark Cram, Alice Frick, and Ada Campe will create a fun and friendly atmosphere for the audience to express themselves and enjoy an inclusive comedy club environment.

The festival also features Bi-Topia a hilarious and honest coming-of-age story exploring the highs and lows of the bisexual experience. Audiences can join Sam, a self-confessed people-pleaser, as he navigates the challenges of shame and conflicting thoughts in this raw and engaging performance on Fri 16 Feb.

For those craving a unique experience, Barbie Kitchen Party takes over Storyhouse on Sat 17 Feb.

Barbie is back, and the pastel-pink watch-along party in The Kitchen promises sequins, sparkles, and a specially curated selection of cocktails and food, providing the perfect backdrop to dance the night away.

Cinema enthusiasts are in for a treat with screenings at Storyhouse’s independent boutique cinema throughout February, showcasing some of the newest and most influential queer films.

Highlights include Queendom  a powerful documentation of queer protest in Putin’s Russia, Monica, a haunting portrayal of a mother-daughter relationship starring trans performer Trace Lysette, Power Alley, a Brazilian feature centered around a gender-fluid volleyball team, and Bottoms, the hotly anticipated high-school comedy from director Emma Seligman (Shiva Baby).

Beyond the on-stage events and cinema screenings, Storyhouse Queer offers a variety of engaging activities. Attendees can participate in a live podcast recording with the Chester Pride team, join hands-on banner-making workshops, and get introduced to local groups and organizations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.

Suzie Henderson, Creative Director at Storyhouse said:
