Storyhouse Announces New Associate Literary Curator

Simon Savidge, widely recognised as Savidge Reads, has joined the theatre, cinema and library as Associate Literary Curator.

Storyhouse, the cultural hub encompassing theatres, cinema, and a library, is excited to announce the appointment of Simon Savidge as Associate Literary Curator. Simon, an authority on contemporary literature, has been a judge for some of the UKs most prestigious literary prizes and has a prolific following across social media. With his vast experience and influence in the literary world, Simon is set to enrich the literary offerings at Storyhouse.

Storyhouse, has been at the forefront of welcoming world-class writers from across the globe to Chester. Simon, brings a wealth of literary expertise and connections with writers and publishers worldwide.

In his role as Associate Literary Curator, Simon will curate regular literary events at Storyhouse, offering audiences access to some of the finest minds in contemporary fiction. His role begins this autumn during the Chester Literature Festival where he will interview TV chef and broadcaster Andi Oliver and writer Melanie Sykes.

His extensive background includes judging the Costa Debut Book Award in 2017, serving as the Chair of the Portico Prize in 2019, the 2020 Costa Book Awards overall winner and the Desmond Elliott Prize in 2021. His influence extends to media, having appeared on the BBC’s Booker Prize live show, hosted a books section on Radio 5 Live, and been featured on BBC Radio 4. Furthermore, Simon was one of the presenters of the BBC Sounds bookish podcast, Turn Up For The Books, and has co-presented on the popular Sky Arts Book Club for three series. Most recently, he was the presenter of Sky Arts’ From Hay this summer.

Expressing his excitement about joining Storyhouse, Simon Savidge said, “I am thrilled to become a part of Storyhouse and look forward to contributing to its vibrant literary program. It is an utter joy to be working in such an incredible, welcoming space and joining such a dynamic and enthusiastic team. Storyhouse has a special magic about it and I look forward to seeing what wonderful, and possibly wild, directions we can go in. I am also really, really keen to hear what audiences would love to see come to these fantastic spaces in the coming months as community is key and at the heart of Storyhouse’s ethos.
