Storyhouse’s Garret Theatre is being turned into a nightspot for a new unique monthly evening of accessible raving.
The Kaleidoscope Club Night, a project between Storyhouse and The People’s Choice Group, will take place on the first Friday of each month from 7 October and is expected to attract dozens of clubbers.
It is open to anyone who is living with a disability.
The event is expected to feature DJ sets, performances from live bands and Silent Disco headsets for people who prefer to curate their own music to dance to.
The night, which is for anyone aged 16 and over, also includes places to chill out and tables and chairs for a breather from dancing, while the Garret bar will be open for drinks and snacks.
The idea for the club night emerged from the annual Kaleidoscope Festival which celebrates neurodiversity and the talents of Chester people living with a disability.
The week-long festival, which takes place in July, includes a rich and varied programme of events and activities including performances, flashmobs, quizzes, film premieres and music.
Kaleidoscope Club Night is funded by Vivo Care Choices, an in-house service at Cheshire West and Chester Council, which provides support through its Community Fund for local projects which can make a real difference to the people Vivo supports including those with learning difficulties or autism.
Tickets for the monthly event can be bought in advance or with cash on the door, and free essential companion tickets are available for support staff.
Anyone aged 16 or 17 needs to be supervised by a parent/guardian or support staff.
Storyhouse communities manager Nicola Haigh said:
The Kaleidoscope Festival has become a real highlight of our annual programme. And being able to see it return this summer after being postponed for two years because of the pandemic was very special, not least because it also celebrated Disability Pride.
There’s a real sense of joy, fun and friendship around Kaleidoscope and I know this new club night is going to be a fantastic addition for the whole Storyhouse community.
